Step 1. Match the base

The drawings show each base from the side with the spacing between its pins. Measure across the pins or the screw thread if you are unsure.

Step 2. Check the shape and size

The letters in a bulb's name give its shape. The number is the width in eighths of an inch. The table lists every shape in the catalog with its real size.

Step 3. Choose the color of white

Kelvin measures the tint of white light. Lower numbers look warmer.

  • 2200KAmber. Candle-like and golden. For mood light.
  • 2700KWarm white. The color of a classic bulb. For living rooms and bedrooms.
  • 2800KHalogen warm. Our halogen bulbs. Warm with a touch more sparkle.
  • 3000KWarm white, crisp. A shade whiter. Good for kitchens.
  • 5000KDaylight. Neutral white. For work areas, garages and makeup mirrors.

Bulb finder questions

How do I know which base my bulb has?

Look at the bottom of the old bulb. A screw thread is E26, E12 or E11 by width. Two short pins with feet are GU10. Two straight pins are GU5.3, G8 or G4 by spacing. Two wire loops are G9. The bulb finder shows them all.

Is my fixture 12V or 120V?

A fixture fed by a transformer is 12V. Path lights and some track kits work this way and take GU5.3 or G4 bulbs. Everything else in a house is 120V.

Which Vinaco bulbs can I dim?

Every Vinaco halogen bulb dims. Among the LEDs, the filament bulbs, globes, CA11 and PAR38 dim. The GU10 LED, the MR16 LED and the E12 candelabra LED do not.

What wattage should I buy?

The wattage printed on the fixture, or less. The label is usually near the socket. More watts than the label allows means more heat than the fixture was built for.
