Where it fits
Some basking lamps and small heat fixtures take a G9 capsule and not a screw bulb. This is the red version for them. Fifty watts of halogen makes a good deal of heat for its size. The red glass keeps the light low. Put the lamp on a dimmer or a thermostat and you can set the warm spot where your animal needs it.
Check before you buy
- The lamp has a G9 socket for looped pins and runs on 120V.
- The fixture allows 50W.
- The bulb sits behind a guard, out of the animal's reach.
Pick another one if
It is a heat and light source, and no more than that. If your reptile needs UVB, that is a separate lamp, and this bulb does not replace it. Measure the basking spot with a thermometer before you leave the lamp on. A bare 50 watt capsule gets hot enough to burn, so it must sit behind a guard.

What buyers say about the G9 Red Halogen Heat Bulb, 50W 120V
4.5 out of 5 from 16 ratings. Reviews word for word, with the critical ones left in.
Good heat bulbs
The heat bulbs work great, but because they get so hot the adapter starts to melt unless it is pointed up. The bulb gives off a good bit of heat. If you have to use an adapter like I did, be sure to watch the adapter for signs of over heating.
Heat Lamp Bulbs
I bought these for our bearded dragon. He seems to be getting the quality from what they are suppose to be doing. I'm new to this bearded dragon journey but the vet says he's looking healthy and developing well.
Don't touch the bulbs!
Bought mine to heat the pet area in the garage at night. So far, each bulb only lasts a few weeks. However, I noticed that each burnt bulb I replaced was "collapsed". I have the light on a timer. What looks like what happening is that when the timer shuts off during the day, the bulbs cool down too fast after getting super hot at night causing them to collapse. Going to try leaving them on instead and see how long they last then add an update. If your bulb only lasts a few days then you must have touched it. Don't touch the bulb! Your fingers leave an oil mark on the bulb, creating a super hot "spot" and shortening the bulb's life.
Good bulbs
Nice price for so many bulbs. They last a while and are easy to change out.
G9 Red Halogen Heat Bulb, 50W 120V: questions
Does this bulb give UVB?
Treat it as a heat bulb. Animals that need UVB need a dedicated UVB lamp alongside it.
Can I dim it?
Yes. It is a halogen and dims on a standard dimmer, which also lowers the heat.
Will it fit a ceramic screw socket?
No. It has a G9 looped-pin base. A dome with an E26 screw socket needs a different bulb.
