Where it fits

Twin-head floodlights over a garage or a back door are the classic home for a PAR38. Each head takes one bulb, and they come on at full output the moment the switch closes. Halogen has no warm-up. Indoors, the same bulb fills a 6 in can in a tall room.

  • The fixture takes an E26 base and has room for a 4.8 in face.
  • The bulb is 5.27 in long, so check the depth of a recessed can.

Pick another one if

Its rated life is 2,000 hours, the shortest in our halogen range. In a light that runs dusk to dawn that is under a year. For a fixture that stays on, the 15W PAR38 LED is the better buy, and it is rated for wet locations. Keep the halogen where light comes in short bursts.
