Where it fits
A flood that burns from dusk to dawn should be an LED. This one draws 15 watts, so a pair over the garage costs little to run all night. It screws into the same E26 socket as a halogen PAR38 and dims on most dimmers. The 180 degree spread is wide, which suits a yard or a driveway more than a single doorway.
Check before you buy
- The fixture has an E26 socket and fits a 4.7 in face.
- You want a wide wash of light more than a tight spot.
- If the circuit has a dimmer, it is one made to work with LED bulbs.

That wide spread is also the catch. A halogen PAR38 throws a tighter, punchier beam, and this LED lights a broad area more evenly but with less reach. The body is plastic and 5.2 in long. If you want the warm look of halogen, take 3000K. The 5000K is whiter and reads brighter.
